Marian is based on a walking leaf (family Phylliidae.) Of all forms of camouflage found in nature, this insect has one of my favorites. Walking leaf’s come in all colors, from bright greens to dark browns. Some even appear to be discolored in certain areas to mimic decay. Such a stealthy faery could only be an archer, and being a lady of the woods, it seemed fitting that I name her after Maid Marian from the Robin Hood legends.
Her armor has been 3D printed, painted with acrylic, and is affixed to her body with leather. Her crown and bow have also been 3D printed and painted with acrylic. The arrow is painted wood and polymer clay, accented with stands of peacock feathers. Her cape is made of leather and lined with silk taffeta. The “spine” on her cape has been 3D printed, and all details have been painted with acrylic. The cloth around her waist has been embroidered with silk using a technique known as stumpwork. The remaining elements of her clothing are made up of silk, wool, tulle, and faux leaves. Her eyes are made of glass, and her hair is wool.
